On December 10th, RM Sotheby’s Driven By Disruption exhibition and auction will be taking place in New York City. It’ll be the second time the NYC-based auctioneers have held an event in the city and there are some absolute beauties on show. Don’t take my word for it, though, have a look for yourself. This is my personal top five to look out for…
Lot 202 – 1972 Lamborghini Miura P400 SV by Bertone
This stunning Miura still has its original body, engine and drivetrain and is the finest restored example available today. Finished in its original colour, the Miura’s mid-mounted alloy V12 engine with four Weber twin-choke carburettors produces 385bhp. Being a relatively late-production SV, it is of the most desirable specification and the restoration was carried out in the world’s finest Miura workshops.
RM Sotheby’s believe it will fetch between $2.2-2.6million at auction.
Lot 203 – 1938 Bugatti Type 57C Atalante
This was the last Type 57 Atalante ever produced. It was displayed at the 1939 New York World’s Fair and was previously owned by the likes of Al Garthwaite of Algar and John W. Straus of Macy’s. It’s one of only 12 aluminium-bodied examples and it still contains all original components.
It is expected to sell for $2.2-2.5million.
Lot 211 – 1958 Ferrari 250 GT Cabriolet Series I by Pinin Farina
This beautiful 250 GT was the 14th of 40 Series I Cabriolets built, and was bought new by John R. Fulp. It was also owned by Robert Donner Jr for 40 years. This 250 GT Cabriolet has been fully restored to its original specifications and finished in its original white colour. It looks incredible but, of course, it doesn’t come cheap.
This classic Ferrari is valued at $6-7.5million!
Lot 215 – 1962 Aston Martin DB4GT Zagato
This is a very, very special car. So special, in fact, that none have traded hands in over a decade! This one-of-19 DB4GT Zagato had a successful racing career in Australia and has since won awards at numerous American and European events. Regarded by many as Zagato’s finest work, this Aston Martin is extremely easy on the eye.
A true masterpiece, it’ll cost you between $15-17million!
Lot 223 – 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL ‘Sportabtellung’ Gullwing
The first of four Factory race-prepared W198 Gullwings, this gorgeous 1955 300 SL is my favourite to feature in the Driven By Disruption auction. it was driven by Sir Stirling Moss at the 1956 Tour de France and has been kept in the same family since 1966. It was fully restored in 2011 and is the rarest W198 Gullwing ever offered. The Mercedes-Benz 300 SL is most definitely one of the best looking cars ever made and whoever walks away from the RM Sotheby’s auction with the keys to this one should count themselves very, very lucky.
Its estimated value is around $5-7million.
Also being sold at RM Sotheby’s New York auction next month is a 1956 Ferrari 290 MM which was driven by none other than Juan Manuel Fangio. You can read more about it here.
Expect a lot of money to change hands at the Driven By Disruption auction on December 10th.
