Yesterday, Shelby of America announced their next generation Shelby Super Snake Mustang based on the 2015 Mustang GT model. Ford and muscle car enthusiast have been impatiently waiting for this monster to return since it was last offered in 2011, and the launch of the next generation Mustang last year. It was only a matter of time that before this legendary model would be revived since the GT350 and GT350R are set to enter showrooms later this year.
Much like many other Super Snakes, the next generation model will have A LOT of power under its hood. The Whipple or Kenne Bell supercharged 5.0L V8 in Super Snake will make over 750 hp! Let that number sink in for a second. That’s over 100 hp more than the previous Super Snake and the current Corvette Z06, and 50 more horsepower than the powerhouses that are the Dodge SRT HellCats. Before you get your check books out, this is an option that has to be fitted to the Super Snake. The “stock” Super Snake will come with a Ford Performance Supercharger that will make a little less power, but Shelby has not released how much it will be.
The new Super Snake will not just be about power. The car is covered in carbon fiber aerodynamic improvements and body panels, a Ford Performance Suspension package, Weld Racing Staggered 20” Wheels with Michelin Tires, Wilwood 6-Piston front brakes, and finally Ford Racing by Borla Exhaust with Shelby tips. The performance options are also very extensive; including things such as differential and transmission cooling kits, Wilwood 4-piston rear brake kit, a brake duct kit, and racing seats with a 5-Point harness. Customers will also have the option of either the typical 6-speed manual, or automatic transmission. This is the first time that the Super Snake will have an automatic transmission as an option.
There will be a limited run of 300 new Super Snake models each year that they will be produced. The car will have a starting price of $49,995, however, that does not include the price of the 2015 Mustang the Shelby will build the Super Snake out of. That will add another $32,300 to the amount, making a total staring price of $82,295. The Super Snake will be available for order sometime in the near future.
