Mountune kit now available for Ford Focus RS

August 7, 2016 By Rob Knight Leave a Comment

To those of you who, for some strange reason, don’t feel like 345bhp is enough power for the latest edition of the Ford Focus RS, fear no more… Mountune have come to the rescue.

Mountune, Ford’s official tuner, and the manufacturer’s Performance division have worked their magic and boosted the 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine to 370bhp and 376lb ft. of torque. That’s a 30lb ft. increase over the ‘standard’ engine and not a single bit of it is wasted.

Dispatched via the Focus RS’ oh-so-wonderful four-wheel drive system, the car’s 0-62mph time has fallen to just 4.5 seconds. That’s 0.2 seconds faster than before and now only 0.2 seconds slower than the Audi RS3 which, don’t forget, uses a clever twin-clutch auto. The RS runs with a trusty six-speed manual.

So, how did they do it? The upgrade consists of an ECU flash, an uprated turbo recirculation valve and Mountune’s RS induction kit that includes an alloy crossover duct and high-performance silicone hoses to improve engine breathing by 11 per cent versus the factory fit pipes. They even put a lovely little Mountune badge on the boot for you.

It’ll cost you a hefty, but justified. £899 and the good news is that any Mountune approved Ford dealer can fit the kit in 90 minutes. Also, being an approved product, it won’t affect your manufacturer’s warranty in any way.

It doesn’t stop there, though. For an extra £379.99 per corner, your Focus RS could be sporting wider and lighter 19-inch OZ Leggera HLT alloys. They’re also offering a Quaife differential. This uses gears instead of clutch plates and costs another another £726. This apparently sharpens up turn-in, making the RS’ drift mode easier and even more fun to use.

For the full kit, you’ll be parting with about two grand. A lot of money, I know, but it’s completely justified and the wife doesn’t even need to know. Everyone’s a winner!
