Chevrolet Annouces Its All-New IndyCar Aero Package

February 18, 2015 By Ben Williams Leave a Comment

Chevrolet has had a lot of success in the Verizon IndyCar Series over the last three years.  The automaker has won two of the last three IndyCar championships as well three-straight manufacture championships with their combination of the great Dallara chassis and their Chevy power.  With the 2015 Verizon IndyCar Series coming up in a few months, Chevrolet revealed a computer rendering of its all-new aerodynamics package yesterday at the Indianapolis Speedway.

Chevrolet’s all-new aero kit will have several obvious differences than the previous kit.  The all-new kit consists of a front wing that features new pedestal-mounted “front uppers” toward the outer edges, newly sculpted “wheel wedges” in front of the rear tires, a more compact engine cover and side pods, a revised turbocharger and exhaust system layout, larger rear bumper pods, and a multi-element upper rear wing, along with louvered end plates.

While this is the aero kit designed for road courses, the aero kit for speedways probably will not be that different.

Chevy, after undertaking a long, nine-step development process, claims that the new aero kit will provide better performance than its previous Dallara designs.  The aero kit will consist of two different configurations: a kit for road course/short oval tracks, and a kit for speedways.  Since Chevy unveiled the aero kit at Indianapolis, the car they showed was equipped with the road course aero kit.  Chevrolet will unveil the speedway kit before the start of the series in March.  With Honda scheduled to unveil their own kit in a few weeks, the IndyCar series is about to become even more interesting.
