Seat have only recently revealed the new Leon and it seems we won’t be waiting too long for a performance version. This is our first non-camouflaged look at the 2020 Cupra Leon. It will be revealed fully in the next few days and is set to rival the likes of the Focus ST, the Golf GTI and the Megane RS.
Unlike its rivals, the Cupra Leon will initially come with a plug-in hybrid powertrain . Although no official details have been released just yet, we suspect it will share it’s engine with the upcoming Mk8 Golf GTE. That’s a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine combined with an electric motor. Power output is expected to be around 242bhp.
Although it hasn’t been confirmed, it is expected that a more powerful, petrol-only variant will follow. Hopefully, it’ll be closer to 300bhp.
This first look gives us an indication of how aggressive the Cupra Leon is going to look with the bigger vents angry looking headlights. You can also expect bigger alloys, beefier brakes and a stiffer suspension setup. The interior is also set for an upgrade. It’s likely to be fitted with racing-stye bucket seats and bespoke digital dash graphics and interior trims.
Like the current model, the 2020 Cupra Leon will be available in both hatchback and estate forms.
