Polestar Precept electric GT to go into production

September 28, 2020 By Rob Knight Leave a Comment

The Polestar Precept is set to go into full production the Swedish manufacturer has confirmed.

Revealed earlier this year as a “commitment car” rather than a concept, the Precept outlines the brand’s future vision not only in terms of its design language, but also “digital technology and the use of innovative sustainable materials, inside and out”.

The list of these sustainable materials of which Polestar speaks is impressive, consisting of recycled PET bottles, cork vinyl and reclaimed fishing nets amongst others. It’s all part of the brand’s commitment to “reducing the environmental impact of our cars and our business”.

It’s not just the car that will be environmentally friendly either. Production will take place at a plant in China which “will be carbon neutral and one of the most intelligent and connected automotive production facilities in the world”.

As of yet we have no specific information regarding the four-seat electric GT’s performance but we do know it is fairly sizeable at over three metres in length and aims to rival the likes of the Porsche Taycan.

Whilst there are no 0-60 times or top speeds to get excited by, or prices to be visibly shocked by, we can certainly admire its sporty, futuristic appearance.

Undoubtedly the most out-there design Polestar has adopted to date, the Precept looks fantastic with its long, sleek, arching roofline and minimalistic interior design. I’m especially fond of the panoramic glass roof and the full-width LED light bar at the back.

We do also know about some extremely fancy tech being adopted by the electric GT such as the front grille being replaced by something called SmartZone and a LIDAR setup, which is necessary for self-driving functions, integrated into the roof rather than sticking out as it has on other concepts.

Polestar has stated that product development is underway but, unfortunately, there is no word on when production will begin and therefore we have no idea when we can expect to see it on our roads.

What are your initial thoughts on the Polestar Precept? A step in the right direction for electric vehicles or destined to be an overpriced party-piece showing off what the company can do? I think it looks excellent but I’ll reserve judgement until we’ve got some performance figures.
