The final round of the 2015 United SportsCar Championship at Road Atlanta saw the final American outing for the BMW Z4 GTLM before it is replaced by the BMW M6 GTLM in 2016. The Petit Le Mans race had to be finished two hours early due to bad weather, short of the original 10 hour duration.
Despite a second place for the number 24 car of John Edwards, Lucas Luhr and Jens Klingsmann, and a fourth for the number 25 car of Bill Auberlen, Dirk Werner and Augusto Farfus, BMW narrowly missed out on the driver, team and manufacturer titles as the winning Porsche helped to take all three titles, include the championship for Patrick Pilet.
The BMW Z4 GTLM debuted in America with BMW Team RLL in 2013, securing 8 pole positions, 5 wins and 16 podiums.
For 2016 there will be a total of 11 GTLM races in the series which will now be known as the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. The season will kick off in Daytona (US) on 30th/31st January 2016.
