Since the Ford GT was announced the revival of their GT Supercar, we have all been waiting for the obvious racing version. Thanks to Turn10’s minor slip-up, we saw a small portion of the car when back in January when the GT was revealed. Now, according to Motorsport, the new Ford GT race car might be at the 2015 24 Hours of Le Mans in a couple of weeks. This is following the news that the new GT Racer was making rounds at Calabogie Motorsports Park in Ontario.
Motorsport also provided some information about the GT Racer’s specs. Apparently, the racer will be powered by the same Roush Yates Ecoboost 3.5 L turbocharged V6 which is similar to Riley-Ford Daytona prototype that won at this year’s Daytona 24 Hour.
Additionally, Motor Authority says that this GT Racer will meet both FIA and IMSA regulation so that the car can race in both the World Endurance Championship and United SportsCar Championship respectively. However, considering Ford’s typical nomenclature, soon we might have the Ford GT, a Ford GT GTE, and a Ford GT GTLM. That is just too many GT’s! That’s almost as bad as the Ferrari La Ferrari. Despite the jokes, it will be good to see the “Blue Oval” back at Le Mans with the latest generation of the car that Shelby made all of those years ago to beat Ferrari.
