To celebrate Mercedes AMG’s 50th year, the German firm have released a series of special editions that will be on show at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. This selection of special editions is made up of the AMG GT C Roadster Edition 50, the C63 Cabriolet Ocean Blue Edition and Night Editions of the C43 Coupe and Cabriolet.
The GT C Roadster Edition 50 is obviously the headliner and only 500 are being made. It still has the same 4.0-litre V8 as the standard Roadster and produces the same 550bhp and 680lb ft of torque. Its rear-mounted seven-speed dual-clutch transaxle helps it get from 0-62mph in 3.7 seconds and top out at just shy of 200mph.
It’s all change on the surface, though. There are two matte colour options – graphite grey or cashmere white. The front splitter, wing vents, rear diffuser and side skirts are gloss black – very nice touch. The ‘Panamerica’ grille that the GT C shares with the GT R and the AMG GT race car also has a gloss black finish.
The interior gets the gloss black treatment, too, with black steering wheel spokes, door sills and shift paddles. The seats, doors and dash are covered in black and silver nappa leather with contrast stitching. To provide further contrast, the seat belts in the Edition 50 are made of a silver fabric.
Even more exclusive than the Edition 50 is the C63 Cabriolet Ocean Blue Edition, of which there will only be 150. Rather than being named after the colour of the car, this special edition is named after the colour of the roof. In fact, you can’t even get the Ocean Blue Edition in any shade of blue – selenite grey and cashmere white are the options. The exterior trims and hubcap surrounds have been painted to match the colour of the roof.
Crystal grey leather, in a quilted design, dominates the Ocean Blue Edition’s interior. The blue seen on the roof does make an appearance, though, in the contrast stitching and on the face of the analogue IWC clock.
The C63 Cabriolet Ocean Blue Edition will be available with either 469bhp as the Cabriolet or 503bhp as the S Cabriolet.
Last but by no means least are the V6-engined C43 Cabriolet and Coupe Night Edition models. The black exterior trims and grille and the black 19-inch alloys tie in with the ‘Night Edition’ name and give the C43 a much more menacing look. There is also a special badge on the centre console.
Powered by the same twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine as the standard C43, both Coupe and Cabriolet, the Night Edition puts out 362bhp through its 4matic fou-wheel drive system.
Unfortunately, the C63 Ocean Blue Edition won’t be going on sale here in the UK but all is well because the AMG GT C Roadster Edition 50 and the C43 Night Editions will be. Mercedes AMG will start taking orders in March for first deliveries of the C43 in June and the GT C in July. Prices are yet to be announced.
