Honda Finally Reveals Their IndyCar Aero Packages

March 10, 2015 By Ben Williams Leave a Comment

Last month, Chevrolet introduced their new aero kits for the upcoming 2015 IndyCar Series.  Yesterday, Honda, whose engines have been powering multiple IndyCar champions for years, have debuted their aero kits for this year’s series.  Based off the Dallara Indy car chassis, the aero kits produced by Honda Performance Development (HPD) are made up of nearly 200 individual pieces.

Honda says that the new IndyCar kit was developed using the same methods as the other successful Honda-powered racing vehicles.  Using various methods such as CAD (computer-aided design), CFD (computational fluid dymamics), DIL (Driver-In-Loop) Simulators, and full-scale wind tunnel test. HPD have created a kit that will provide the six Honda IndyCar teams with a significant range of available tuning configurations for desired effects.

To be honest, their would appear that the Chevy and Honda kits do look remarkable similar.

To be honest, their would appear that the Chevy and Honda kits do look remarkable similar.

Just like Chevy, Honda has produced two different kits: one for road courses and short ovals, and one for speedways.  Honda, also like Chevy, has chosen to show off their road courses and short ovals kit first.  The Honda and Chevy kit will both be making their public debuts at next week’s at Barber Motorsports Park during the Version IndyCar Series “Open Test.”   We will probably see their new speedway kits later on in the series, if not at the start of the series in two weeks in St. Petersburg, Florida.  With multiple close manufacture championships in the past, the new aero kits will add another level of competition to this year’s IndyCar Series.
