While American firm Local Motors unveiled a 3D printed 3 seater car with a 40mph top speed and 120 mile range at the end of 2014, Chinese company Sanya Sihai has their own 3D printed car which isn’t as quick – but it is gold.
It’s not particularly pretty, but it’s cheap at a cost of 11,000 yuan ($1770) to build, weighing 500kg, and printed in Tyrant Gold filament.
The 3.6 metre electric car has a max speed of 25mph and took five days to build. The interior isn’t 3D printed, unlike the Local Motors Strati, which can be printed in just 44 hours.
While we’re still a way off seeing 3D printed cars all around us on the roads, it’s getting to the point where it’s going to make serious changes to the kit car industry and spare parts for a start.
