Cadillac Has Made Their First Plug-In Hybrid

April 22, 2015 By Ben Williams Leave a Comment

Cadillac is not known for making hybrid vehicles, but since GM has slowly been getting with the times, there have been some hybrid models from American’s luxury car company.  Cadillac announced their latest hybrid earlier this week in the form of their new CT6 Sedan.

2016 Cadillac CT6

Cadillac has taken a lot of inspiration from their old models and has combined it with their current aggressive style.

Unveiled at the New York Auto Show, the CT6 is the newest addition to Cadillac’s long line of top of the range luxury sedans.  According to Cadillac, the CT6 is one of the eight all-new vehicles that they have planned to be launch by the end of this decade.   The CT6 will feature a lightweight chassis and aluminum body, all-wheel drive, four-wheel steering, Magnetic Ride Control, selectable driving modes, a wide variety of safety features, and of course a full infotainment system.

We think that it’s safe to assume the the hybrid will share the same luxury interior and infotainment system as its gas/petrol powered brothers.

The new hybrid will be called the CT6 PHEV and will be Cadillac’s first plug-in hybrid model to date.  The new hybrid system will include a direct injected, dual-overhead cam, turbo 2.0L I4 gas engine and all-new rear wheel electric variable transmission that features two electric motors.  When combined, the total hybrid system will produce 335 hp, and 432 lb-ft of torque.  Using the GM hybrid technology, the CT6 PHEV’s hybrid system is designed to use electric power for everyday driving allowing for higher fuel efficiency and power output.  The CT6 PHEV will also feature three driving modes, and an energy regeneration system.

At this time, Cadillac has not provided full-details about the range and efficiency of the new CT6, but promises that these numbers will be available closer to the model’s US release sometime in early 2016.  The good news is that this hybrid will be available worldwide along with the gas version of the CT6 in several different markets.
