With the major announcements from the Chicago Auto Show wrapping up, BMW has already announced its intentions for the Geneva Auto Show next month. In a press release yesterday, BMW announced that they will be premiering a few new models, and exciting news to their hybrid customers at the show.
BMW will bring their “ground-breaking” estate, BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer, that we talked about last week, and their new compact BMW 1 Series for their world premieres. The new BMW 1 Series has received what BMW are calling “extensively modified” body panels that still look similar to the old 1 series and to most other BMW models. With the new 1 Series, customers will have a selection of BMW’s wide variety of gas and diesel engines that boasts large fuel economy numbers, and low CO2 emissions. The BMW 116d EfficientDynamics Edition, for example, has a 116 hp three-cylinder engine, posts a claimed average fuel consumption of 83 mpg, making it the “efficiency king” of the BMW model range. The new 1 Series will also feature a near perfect weight distribution, 3 and 5 door variants, adaptive suspension, M Sport suspension, Variable Sports Steering and an M Sport braking system.
Besides of these two models, BMW will also be bringing their new M4 MotoGP Safety Car to the Geneva Auto Show. BMW M vehicles have been in this role since 1999, and in the tradition of having innovative M vehicles, this new one is not any different. This new MotoGP Safety Car will feature BMW’s new innovative water-injection system that will produce both performance, emissions, and fuel economy. BMW promises that this new water-injection will be made available on M models “in the near future.”
Lastly, BMW is going to be announcing new services available to their i vehicles. Following the success of the i3 and i8 models, BMW will be expanding their services for the owners of these vehicles both domestically and internationally. Besides explaining charging stations in North America, these services will include ParkNow LongTerm parking spaces, a new web and app based ParkNow that will helps drivers to find a parking/charging space when they need it, and a ride sharing option called DriveNow. As part of this announcement, the i8 sports car will also get some new interior options and standard equipment later this year.
BMW has a repetition of making new and innovative performance vehicles, and it would seem that this trend is continuing with these new innovations. The Geneva Auto Show is not until March 5th, so we will have to wait a couple of weeks for more information about these announcements then.
