Once again, Audi has been very busy before an auto show, bringing a bunch of new models to show up. For this week’s Shanghai Auto Show, Audi brought three world premieres to show off. These world premieres include 2 electric cars as well as the next edition to Audi’s prologue concept family.
Audi Q7 e-tron 2.0 TFSI Quattro
After premiering the Q7 e‑tron Quattro at the Geneva Motor Show last month, Audi has a new version of the plug-in hybrid. This is the first time that Audi has combined their new TFSI plug-in hybrid with their Quattro drive. The TFSI is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder direct-injection gas engine that produces 211 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. This is combined with an electric motor mounted directly to the eight-speed tiptronic transmission for a total system output of 367 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. On the emission front, the Q7 e-tron 2.0 TFSI Quattro will actually not have as much range as the first Q7 e-tron. On full-electric mode, the new Q7 hybrid will cover 33 miles with a total range of 639 miles. This Q7 hybrid will also include the standard thermal management system with integrated heat pump has been specially developed for the plug-in hybrids of the Q7 familyThe Audi Q7 e-tron 2.0 TFSI quattro will be available from in the Asia market starting in 2016.
Audi A6 L e-tron
Audi has been building longer versions of their line just for the Chinese market for the last couple of years now. Audi is now making electric versions of these vehicles now just for the Chinese market. One of these is the new A6 L e-tron. This hybrid will have a similar TFSI system as the Q7 e-tron 2.0 TFSI Quattro, but will only make 245 hp, and 369 lb‑ft of torque. On the range front, the A6 L e-tron will cover 31 miles on full electric mode, and 547 miles of total range. The lithium-ion batteries, which are conveniently stored under the A6’s luggage compartment, have two-phase charging ability so that they can be charged in around two hours given enough power-outlet. Like the Audi Q7 e-tron 2.0 TFSI Quattro, the A6 L e-tron will be only available in the Asia market starting in 2016.
Audi prologue allroad Concept
We have known from past experiences with Quartto that Audi knows how to make off-road vehicles. Coming off that success, the new Audi prologue allroad concept shows how the automaker will make the same type of car in the future. Since it is part of the prologue concept family, the prologue allroad will be an uncompromised hybrid model. This concept will not be slow, since it has been fitted with a twin-turbo 4.0 V8 that, in combination with the electric motor, will produce 734 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque. With that power, the prologue allroad will cover 0-60 in 3.5 seconds while still having an electric range similar to the A6 e-tron and the Q-7 e-tron. Since it is an off-road vehicle, the prologue allroad Concept will have the suspension and chassis to match. The prologue allroad is 3 inches higher than the prologue Avant, and will have lightweight, five-lick axles, an air suspension system and dynamic all-wheel steering, and, of course, the Quattro all-wheel drive system.
Great information Ben thanks for the article, it look like Audi are going all guns blazing with their e-tron range and we should soon see a return of the R8 -tron too, production of this was stopped as the battery technology hadn’t developed as Audi expected.
