Audi, DHL, and Amazon have announced that the three companies have been working on a new, more convenient delivery service. Starting in May, a pilot program will allow the delivery of packages directly to Audi owner’s trunks/boots via temporary authorization for keyless access.
When checking out, Amazon customers will have the option of selecting their Audi as the shipping address, agreeing to the tracking of their car’s position for a specific delivery time. From there, a DHL driver will be sent an access code for the customers’ trunk that can on only be used during the specific delivery time. This also means customers will be able to send packages and letters from their car in the future. This is the first time that an online retailer to offer customers delivery directly to their car’s trunk.
While this does sound like a good system, these three companies better have a very secure system to be able to pull this off. There are a lot of points where information can be stolen during this process, and some of the more conservative customers will probably think twice before using the system.
