This is the Alpine A110 Sports X and it is by far the coolest car 2020 has had to offer so far.
It’s inspired by the company’s rally heritage and is what’s being described as a “styling exercise”. Basically, Alpine’s engineers and designers got bored and decided to see what the classic rally car would look like if it were based on the current model.
It’s based on the A110 Pure but the track and body are 80mm wider and the whole car sits 60mm higher for extra ground clearance. Wider arches allow for higher profile Michelin Primacy tyres to be fitted to the standard alloys. Black linings on the wheel arches add to the off-road look.

Bespoke front and rear bumpers give the A110 Sports X a more rugged look whilst skid plates on the lower section of the bumpers add extra protection against rough terrain.
The winter look is completed with white and black bodywork, light blue detailing and skis attached to the back of the car. Not something you’d find on your typical sports car!
There’s been no word on the engine so assume it’s unchanged – a 1.8-litre turbocharged four-cylinder unit producing 249bhp and 239lb ft of torque.

Unfortunately, this is not a production model so it will not be on sale alongside the A110 and A110S. As much as I’d love it to go into production at some point, it is highly unlikely.
There is, however, another option – the A110 Rally. At £135,000, it is more expensive than the standard models. What it does offer, though, is the option to be homologated for WRC R-GT class competitions. It might not quite be the Sports X but it may partially fill the gap it leaves.
