Pretend, for a moment, you are a Ferrari owner spending the day at the Hotel Exedra in Rome attending a meeting of the Ferrari’s Owners Club. You have driven your nearly $500,000 Ferrari 599 GTO to the hotel and left it in the care of the hotel’s valet which I guess is normal for these types of events. Once the meeting is over, you ask the valet to bring the car back only to watch him lose control of the car and crash it into a storefront.
This rather unfortunate tale took place last week, as reported by the Corriere della Sera. The valet driver in question, a man named Roberto Cinti, accidentally put his foot on the accelerator instead of the brake and unleashed all of the 599 GTO’s 670hp on the small straight between the parking garage and the plaza where the Ferrari’s owner was waiting. With the acceleration of the Ferrari, the car quickly gained enough speed to almost completely bury the car into the front of a store at the end of the straight. Luckily, no one was injured, but the store did suffer major damages from the impact.
The 599 GTO also did not fair too well from the impact with the storefront. The car was basically totaled, and since the 599 GTO had a very limited production run of just 599 cars, it is not likely that the previous Ferrari owner will be able to replace it. Cinti was quoted saying “I’m ruined.” This accident could have been much worse, so it is good to hear that no one was injured. You can see the amount of damage done by watching the short video below.
