This 1:8 scale Rolls-Royce Cullinan takes model cars to the next level and might just be the most Rolls-Royce thing I have ever seen.
Made up of more than 1,000 perfectly recreated miniature components, each model is built by hand to the customer’s specification in a process that takes around 450 hours. To put that into perspective, that’s over half the amount of time it takes to build a full-size Cullinan despite being only 1/8th of the size!
The level of detail is staggering and you get the full Rolls-Royce experience when choosing how you want yours to be built. You can replicate your actual Cullinan down to the finest details or, if you would rather, you can create a unique “objet d’art”.
There are over 40,000 ‘standard’ colours to choose from. If none of these float your boat, you can opt for your own bespoke finish. The models are hand-painted and hand-polished, then the coachlines are applied with a fine brush – they probably get better treatment than most new cars.
The exterior lights are fully functional and are operated by a Cullinan-branded remote control. Under the bonnet you’ll find an intricately crafted replica of the 6.75-litre twin-turbocharged V12 engine.
Open the coach doors and take a look inside the 1:8 scale Rolls-Royce Cullinan and you’ll be taken aback.. It’s an “interior designed and executed with the materials, skill and attention to detail lavished on Cullinan itself”.
You name it and they can change it. From the headrest embroidery to the stitching in the doors, the wood finishes to the seat piping. It’s all fully customisable. You can even have functioning interior lights fitted if you wish!
The exquisite scale model is presented with a gloss black base mounted on a plinth in a display case that measures almost a metre in length. This allows it to be appreciated from all angles and the Perspex window can be removed enabling the opening of the doors, bonnet and tailgate.
The model represents how the company “seek and achieve greatness in everything we do, down to the smallest item and minutest detail”, says Torsten Müller-Ötvös, Chief Executive, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. I’d say they’ve made their point…
Just as staggering as the model itself is the cost. That’s around £30,000 according to Top Gear, although the price hasn’t yet been confirmed by Rolls-Royce. If it’s even close to that, it’s far more than most of us will ever spend on a car you can actually drive!
Having said that, I don’t think the average driver is the intended audience for this particular product. If you can afford a Cullinan, you can probably afford the model to match.
Personally, I can think of better ways to spend thirty grand but I can certainly see the appeal and I have no doubt this will be popular amongst Rolls-Royce’s existing customers. Take a look at the video below to see it in more detail.
