Ford Announces All-New Focus RS And Brings it to the US

February 3, 2015 By Ben Williams Leave a Comment

As promised in last month’s teaser video, today Ford announced the next generation Ford Focus RS.  Following the Ford GT announced at the North American International Auto Show, the all-new Focus RS is the next model of the 12 new performance vehicles from Ford Performance by 2020.  Ken Block, the famous rally driver and Gymkhana film-star, served as a consultant in the development of the new RS, helping Ford make the new Focus worthy of the legendary “RS” name.

2016 Ford Focus RS

The All-New Ford Focus RS is said to be designed to look more powerful and muscular while remaining functional.

The all-new Focus RS will feature a wide variety of new technologies, as well as changing the conceptions of the Focus itself.  Typical front-wheel drive, the new Focus RS will feature Ford Performance’s new All-Wheel Drive with Dynamic Torque Vectoring that will give the vehicle completely new performance capabilities never before available to previous RS models.  The new torque vectoring technology is said to be able to transfer the power front-to-back and side-to-side at a moments notice.  Speaking of power, the new Focus RS will predicitable have the new turbocharged, 2.3L EcoBoost engine.  Sharing the same basic block design as the four-cylinder 2.3L EcoBoost in the new Mustang, this new 2.3L EcoBoost engine for the Focus RS received several upgrades to help the engine produce over 315 hp with an estimated output of between 320 hp and 340 hp.

The all-new Focus RS

The all-new Focus RS will feature several aerodynamically designed body panels like this large rear spoiler.

Combining the new AWD and the new EcoBoost with a stiffened sport-suspension, an advanced Electronic Stability Control system design to work with the torque vectoring technology to make the car stable, and Brembo brakes, the all-new Focus RS sounds like it will be a truly hot hatch. The all-new Focus RS will be available in most major markets around the world, and for the first time in the US, making it the first Focus RS designed for the global market.
