Volkswagen’s classic camper van has become somewhat of a cult classic in recent years. With the trend of electric cars becoming more popular, Volkswagen might want to put a bit of classic zeal to the market. Autocar says that Dr. Heinz-Jakob Neusser, one of the members of VW’s board, revealed at the New York Auto Show that VW is currently working on just such a vehicle.
According to Neusser, VW engineers and designers have been working on a new Camper van concept that will have a small electric motor driving the front wheels and battery packs stored under the floor. The new concept will use many of the style features and as the classic van and will combine some more modern VW design features. The best part is that the electric engines will allow for a much lower hood line than what would be required for a gas engine. That means that we could have another flat faced VW Van. There was another Van concept called the Bulli a couple of years ago that might be what this new concept might look like, but with a much lower hood line, of course. There is no word about when we can expect this new concept. Let us hope we will see it soon.
