The 2020 Seat Ateca has been revealed with minor appearance, tech and engine tweaks.
Arguably the most important model to come from the Spanish manufacturer in recent years, the Ateca has proved very popular since its release in 2018, which perhaps explains why they’ve more-or-less stuck to the same recipe.
Cosmetic changes focus mainly on the front end. New front and rear bumpers add a bit of length to the SUV and the updated grille, side skirts and LED headlights bring it more in line with the new Leon. At the back, you’ll find full LED taillights, which now have scrolling indicators, and the Ateca badge has been relocated to the centre of the tailgate.
Inside, the driver benefits from a new heated steering wheel. New materials and stitching in the trims and panels enhance the Ateca’s interior as do multi-colour ambient lighting and new surrounds for the air vents, gear lever and infotainment unit.

The 2020 Seat Ateca is now “fully digitised” and comes with a 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit. Your infotainment options are new and improved 8.25-inch and 9.2-inch displays. Both come with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility while the latter offers navigation and “natural voice control to simplifiy user interaction”.
Seat describe the 2020 Ateca as being “among the safest and most advanced in the market”, and this is thanks to a host of new driver assist and convenience systems.
Systems including Pre-Crash Assist, Predictive Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Travel Assist similar to that in the new Volkswagen Arteon, Emergency Assist and Side and Exit Assist help the car to see and analyse more of its surroundings. This in turn allows it to “sense its environment, offering optimised protection no matter what scenario occurs”.
When it comes to the Ateca’s powertrain, there’s still no sign of any PHEV or full EV variants. Petrol options are the three-cylinder 1.0-litre TSI, a 1.5-litre TSI or the more powerful 187bhp 2.0-litre TSI. The 1.6-litre diesel has been ditched for a cleaner 2.0-litre TDI with either 113bhp or 148bhp outputs.
Transmission options come in the form of either a six-speed manual or seven-speed DSG. Seat’s 4Drive all-wheel-drive system is available whether you opt for petrol or diesel but only on the most powerful of the two.
