ResCars’ 2015 Top 5

2015 has been a great year for us at ResCars and for the motor industry as a whole. There’s been some incredible new cars, excellent racing and shocking scandals – a bit of everything! With just a few hours to go before the beginning of the new year, we thought we’d celebrate the last 12 months by taking a look at our top 5 stories (just in case you missed them the first time round)!

5 – Fangio’s Ferrari 290 MM

Back in October, we brought you a story about a one-of-four 1956 Ferrari 290 MM that was going up for sale at an RM Sotheby’s auction in New York.

The 1956 Ferrari 290 MM is a gorgeous piece of machinery.

Juan Manuel Fangio, one of the greatest Formula 1 drivers of all time, raced this Ferrari in a number of events. The most famous of these events was the Mille Miglia 1000-mile race which took place in Italy – Fangio and his Ferrari came 4th.

The beautiful 290 MM fetched an astonishing $28.5 million when it was sold earlier this month!

4 – Cayman GT4 Clubsport

I’ve personally never been much of a Porsche fan. They’d never made a car that made me think “Wow, that is amazing”. The Cayman GT4 changed that, though. Everything about it impressed me and I wasn’t sure how Porsche were going to be able to improve it – Then came the Clubsport.

The Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport – What a car!

The track-only version of the GT4, revealed in November, looks incredible and is eligible for a number of racing series around the world. Porsche released a short video showing what it can do – Check it out below.

3 – Zenos E10-R

I don’t think there is anyone in the world who wouldn’t be impressed by this car. Where else could you find 500bhp per tonne for £40k?

The E10-R is Zenos’ most extreme car to date.

With the same 2.3l EcoBoost engine as the Ford Focus RS, the E10-R is ridiculously quick. It’s also considerably cheaper and, quite frankly, a lot better looking than its closest rival, the Caterham 620R. It’s road-legal, too!

2 – Yamaha YXZ1000R

If you like driving off-road, this is the car for you. Effectively a four-wheeled dirt-bike, this Yamaha will provide you with hours and hours of fun.

It’s compact 3-cylinder 998cc DOHC engine gives it plenty of power and the high capacity aluminium radiator with its integrated fan enables it to cope with hot and dirty conditions.

How fun does this look?!

The Special Edition was released earlier this month and the Racing Blue version is available from February 2016.

1 – The sunken Capri

Back in July, a 1982 Ford Capri was found and recovered from a lake in Nottinghamshire during a routine weed inspection.

This is what 20 years underwater does to a car!

After being inspected by a Nottinghamshire Police dive team, lifting bags and a winch were used to remove the blue saloon from the lake. How it ended up at the bottom of the lake, no one knows.
