BMW to recall 489,000 vehicles

BMW is issuing a recall for 489,000 vehicles including 1 Series, 3, Series, 5 Series, X3, X5, X6 and Z4 automobiles from 2010 through 2012, along with the 2012 6 Series. The reason is that the bolts holding the variable camshaft timing (Vanos) unit housing may become loose of in extreme cases, break.

The recall first began in China, but has been broadened globally. Back in 2012 the German car maker also had to recall 1.3 million 5 Series and 6 Series cars built between 2003-2010 due to car battery cable covers which could have been incorrectly mounted.
