The New MX-5 Makes a Virtual Debut

Earlier today, Mazda announced that the new 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata, months before the car will go on sale to the public, is coming to the Forza Horizon 2 video game.  Beginning March 17th, gamers will have the exclusive opportunity to virtually drive the new Miata MX-5 for free.

The Forza Motorsports Franchise is known for their livery customization options, meaning we can expect to see some awesome versions of the new MX-5 soon.

According to Mazda, this will be the ultimate test drive for fans of the MX-5.  Forza Horizon 2, developed by Turn 10 Studios, is a free-roam driving game that combines the legendary Forza Motorsports physics with different weather conditions and day and night settings.  Gamers who download the MX-5 will be able to explore the car in incredible detail both inside and out using Forza’s unique Autovista feature.   Mazda has also announced that they will have a time-trial contest on one of the Forza Horizon 2’s circuits where gamers can compete to win a brand new 2016 MX-5.

Mazda has also taken this opportunity to release information about their SKYACTIV Technology for the new MX-5.  SKYACTIV Technology will both lighten and strengthen the already light weight roadster.  The new tech has dropped the curb weight by 150 lbs. from the previous generation MX-5.

Not a lot of automakers have done virtual test drives like this before.  With the increased use of technology in the auto industry, providing the information for game companies to put new models in games will be much easier than previous years.  If Mazda’s test drive venture is successful, hopefully automakers will start doing this sort of thing more often.
