North American International Auto Show: Alfa Romeo Unveils Its New Spider.

Car reviewers around the world have loved the looks of the Alfa Romeo 4C with some even called it one of the most beautiful cars ever built.  Coming off of this success, Alfa introduced its latest model, the 4C Spider while at the North American International Auto Show.  The concept for the car was introduced at the Geneva International Motor Show early last year.  Now, Alfa has finally has a production version to show off to the world.

2015 Alfa Romeo 4C Spider

In Alfa’s grand tradition in open-top sports cars, 4C Spider will be hand-built in Modena, Italy and will feature the same Alfa style that made the 4C Coupe a success.  The styling between the two cars will predominantly stay the same, as well as the mid-engine design.  The 4C Spider, however, with the top down will feature panoramic views and the uninterrupted sound from the all-new Akrapovic exhaust.  This exhaust system, which unfortunately will be only available after the car’s initial release, will features dual, center-mounted tips with carbon fiber surround which will produce the signature Alfa sound.  In the meantime, the 4C will offer the same standard and racing exhaust systems available of the 4C Coupe.  When the weather rolls in, the 4C Spider will have a stowable cloth-roof, or, eventually, a removable carbon fiber hardtop.

On top of all of this, the Alfa 4C Spider will share the same Alfa-Racing DNA as the Coupe.  The new Spider will have the same turbocharged, all-aluminum 1.75L four-cylinder engine that makes 237 hp, and the Formula 1 inspired carbon fiber chassis as the Coupe.  However, the Spider will feature some new tech.  First of all, the 4C Spider’s windshield frame will also be made from carbon fiber, providing both strength and lightness that will be needed in a convertible.  The 4C Spider will also have a  twin-clutch, paddle-shifting transmission that has been specifically tuned for the car, and will have two different modes, Dynamic and Race.  The Alfa-Racing DNA continues with the 4C Spiders performance suspension, removal of power-steering completely, and a brake system that will deliver maximum of stopping power and up to 1.25 g’s of deceleration.  To top all of that off, the 4C Spider will also have a Track Package that will add more carbon fiber, even stiffer suspension, larger sway bars and Pirelli tires.

2015 Alfa Romeo 4C Spider and Coupe

Alfa Romeo has a legacy of making stunning, exciting vehicles, and they definitely have brought their best when creating the 4C Coupe and now the 4C Spider.  Bring their racing heritage and combining it with the craftsmanship and quality of Maserati, Alfa has been creating beautiful handling and looking cars for the last few years.  By the sound of it, this will not be any different with the 4C Spider.  The 4C Spider in all of its Italian styling and performance glory will be available this summer.
