New Lamborghini Huracan EVO RWD unveiled

1 / 9

Traditionally, Lamborghini have been known for their incredible all-wheel-drive supercars and have successfully proven that they can be just as entertaining as their rear-wheel-drive counterparts. Having said that, this is what the Italians are referring to as the driver’s Lamborghini – the Huracan EVO RWD.

It’s powered by the same 5.2-litre V10 as the AWD coupe but output is down from 631bhp to 602bhp and torque is slightly lower at 413lb ft. No need to worry, though, as the power isn’t the only thing that has been reduced.

Thanks to the absence of a heavy AWD system consisting of a prop shaft, centre differential and front driveshafts amongst other components, weight is reduced by 33kg. This means the top speed matches the AWD’s 202mph but 0-62mph is down a touch to 3.3 seconds – hardly slow, is it?

Another feature the Huracan EVO RWD is missing is the coupe’s extremely clever rear-wheel steering setup. Instead, it’s fitted with a completely overhauled traction control system – Performance Traction Control System (P-TCS). This gives more slip to the driven rear wheels in the sportier driving modes and, in Corsa, “enhances oversteer by 30%”. Not sure how they’ve come to that figure but we’ll take their word for it!

In terms of styling, tweaks are subtle but noticeable enough for the enthusiasts to tell the difference between this and the AWD coupe. There’s a new front bumper and redesigned rear diffuser amongst other minor changes. Inside, there’s yellow Alcantara trim to match the new Giallo Belenus paintwork as shown in the photos.

Prices for the EVO RWD start at £137,000 compared to £165,000 and £181,000 compared to the AWD coupe and Spyder respectively. Whilst it is slightly slower off the line, the Huracan EVO RWD will most certainly be a more enjoyable drive and is substantially cheaper.

Early contender for car of the year? Only time will tell. Let me know your thoughts on the new Huracan in the comments section below or via our Facebook and Twitter pages.
