JFK-linked 1949 Cadillac 75 Fleetwood up for auction
This 1949 Cadillac 75 Fleetwood is up for auction at the H& H Classics Chateau Impney sale on July 10th, 2016, and is expected to sell for between £35-£45,000 due to historic links with John F Kennedy.
The car was originally owned by the Archbishop of Boston, Richard J Cushing. As a close friend of the Kennedy family he officiated at the marriage of John F Kennedy and Jacqueline Bouvier in 1953, the JFK presidential inauguration in 1961 and his funeral in 1963. And research indicates the Cadillac was at all of these events.
The car itself is one of 220 made. Number 103 features a 160hp 5.4 litre V8 engine, and a 4-speed Hydra-matic automatic gearbox. It’s finished in black with a beige/brown cloth interior and wooden trim. Along with the whitewall tyres, it also has the original radio, electric windows and is in excellent restored condition after passing through just three owners since the archbishop.
Despite the powerful engine, it’s not built to move fast. It’s a big car at 5.7 metres long, 1.83 metres high and 2 metres wide. And it comes with an equally large file of it’s history, so if you’re interested in owning an historic classic Cadillac, get your wallet ready for July 10th, 2016.
