Geneva Motor Show: Nissan Sway Concept Makes Its Debut
As we reported last week, Nissan has created the Sway, a small hatchback concept to showcase how their design would be shake up the European Hatchback market. According to Nissan, their daring design would challenge the “conservative” hatchback market.
Sway Concept is Nissans’s glimpse at how a future generation of compact Nissan models might look
The exterior design of the Sway combines four of Nissan’s new design elements: the V-motion grille where the Sway’s bold curves start, a floating roof that features a panoramic glass roof, boomerang lamps that are made to look like eyes, and kicked-up C-pillar the reduces the line between the door and the roof. All of these are elements that we have started to see on other Nissan vehicles, but never quite like this. While I am not a fan of the odd folded angle on the side of the car, the Sway is still, as a package, quite a nice car to look at. Considering that Nissan has never created a small hatchback before, the Sway really is an impressive concept vehicle.
The gliding wing shaped dashboard in the Sway Concept is very simple in its design, not wanting to mess with the variety of buttons that are found on other dashboards.
The new designs continue into the Sway’s interior. With brightly colored accents, exposed aluminum and suede-like seats, and “gliding wing shaped dashboard,” the interior of the Sway complements the exterior design. The interior of the Sway was designed to be as elegantly simple. You can see this simplicity in the “gliding wing shaped dashboard” that does not fuse multiple huge screens or huge buttons. The simplicity of the interior combined with the removal of the B-pillar, the interior of the compact Sway seems much spacious than it actually is.
The new Sway is very striking looking in just about every angle that you look at the concept. This should not come as a surprise since Nissan is known for their trend of high build quality, and innovative technology and design. While the Sway is a non-traditional looking hatchback, it does not appear to be a hot hatchback. Nissan has not really discussed the performance end of the new concept. However, since this is Nissan we are talking about, if the Sway does go to production NISMO will get their hands on it at some point.
