New Porsche Cayenne GTS returns to V8 power
This is the new Porsche Cayenne GTS. Available in SUV and Coupe forms, its 3.6-litre turbocharged V6 has been ditched for a bigger, more powerful V8 unit.
It’s the same 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 you’ll find in the Cayenne Turbo. It’s been downtuned for the GTS, however, with an ample output of 453bhp and 457lb ft of torque. That’s 99bhp less than the turbo but only 10bhp more than the S, the next model down in the Cayenne range.
As with all new Cayennes, that power is put down through an eight-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission and an active four-wheel-drive system. This helps to propel the Cayenne GTS from 0-62mph in just 4.5 seconds which perfectly bridges the gap between the Turbo (4.1) and the S (4.9). It’ll continue on to a top speed of 173mph.
The chassis set-up is specific to the GTS. It benefits from a 20mm drop in ride height and adopts adaptive dampers and steel springs in place of the Turbo’s air suspension setup which is still an option should you wish to pay extra for it.
Standard brakes are steel units with red calipers. Tungsten-coated and carbon ceramic brakes are optional, as are Porsche’s active anti-roll system and rear-wheel steering.
If you choose the Lightweight Sports package, you’ll get a new exhaust system which now has twin exits at the centre of the rear bumper. The package also comes with a carbon fibre roof, a 22-inch wheel and tyre package as well as slightly different body styling.
Other cosmetic tweaks are as expected. Darkened lights, black trims and wheels, black badges – they’re all there. Inside, you’ll find the dash and seats coated in black leather and alcantara with red or grey contrast stitching. It all looks very sleek.
The new Cayenne GTS is available to order now. Prices start at £85,930 or £88,750 if you’d rather have the Coupe. Much like its 0-62 times, the pricing provides a perfect middle ground between the S and the Turbo.
