New Peugeot 308 TCR racing car unveiled
This is the brand new Peugeot 308 TCR! Based on the existing 308 Racing Cup, it’s here to further diversify the already mixed fields found in TCR regulation events around the world.
In terms of its size, the engine is the same as the one found in the road car – a 1.6-litre turbocharged inline-four. Here though, Peugeot Sport have managed to squeeze out an immense 345bhp and 310lb ft of torque. That power is put down to the front wheels exclusively via a six-speed sequential gearbox, a stronger box than the one found in the Racing Cup.
The French manufacturer has gone all out on its handling. The track on the TCR is significantly wider than the road car, as is pretty clear in the photos, and the wheel arches have been extended to contain that. The suspension setup consists of adjustable anti-roll bars front and rear, adjustable ride height and adjustable camber. Braking is taken care of by 378mm discs at the front stopped by six-piston calipers and at the back, you’ll find 270mm discs and two-piston calipers.
There’s aero everywhere, too. The new front bumper includes a splitter and vents to aid airflow to the radiator and intercooler . There’s a diffuser on the rear bumper and, of course, they’ve added a huge rear wing as well. It really does look quite impressive.
If you want one, it’ll cost you €109,000 (roughly £97,000). Doesn’t sound too bad for a 345bhp touring car does it? It is worth bearing in mind, however, that a full season of TCR can cost up to £450,000 which still isn’t a lot in racing terms. Check out the video below to see it in action…
