Audi Continues to Push the Limits With their new R8 e-tron Concept.

When Audi unveiled their new R8 design at the Geneva Motor Show back in March, the R8 e-tron was there with its gas powered brothers.  The R8 e-tron is Audi’s electric sports car, and has become testing ground for Audi’s electric and technology test ground for the rest of their vehicles.  Now, Audi has continued this tread by building a new R8 e-tron concept car that comes with an autonomous driving system.

You would never know that this is an autonomous vehicle if you did not look closely.

Audi debuted their new e-tron concept last week at the CES Asia.  The concept’s autonomous system has all of the functionality of what you would expect from a self-driving car.  It has the wide array of laser scanners, video cameras, ultrasonic and radar sensors on basically every side of the car.  What is impressive is that Audi has managed to fit this entire system in without decreasing performance.  According to Audi, the autonomous R8 e-tron will still have the same 280 mile range and 0-60 time as the stock R8 e-tron. This means that this new concept might just be the fastest self-driving vehicle that has been built.

While Audi is usually a font of information when it comes to their new concepts, there is not a lot of information about this one.  This is certainly not Audi’s first autonomous, so it is not like this is a new system of anything.  However, that being said, Audi is beginning to reach Peugeot status with all of the concepts that they have been building but not producing recently.
