Aston Martin Vantage Roadster revealed

1 / 10

This is the Aston Martin Vantage Roadster and it is, as the legendary Bruce Almighty once said, “b-e-a-utiful”. It’s unveiling coincides with a fresh batch of options for the coupe, too.

I’m not going to lie – I wouldn’t even bother reading this if I were you. Just look at the photos. It is absolutely stunning and that’s coming from someone who isn’t normally a fan of convertibles. You wouldn’t expect anything less, though, would you?

There’s a smooth new grille celebrating 70 years of the Vantage nameplate. You still get the same four exhausts, sporty rear diffuser and full width taillight setup as the coupe. It’s just a joy to look at. Having said that, I can’t say I’m massively keen on the colour of that interior…

I think it goes without saying that the main difference between this and the coupe is its lack of a solid roof. The folding fabric roof has moved away from the setup used by the previous Vantage Roadster and current DB11 Volante. Instead, Aston Martin have used a more simple Z-fold setup.

For those of you who might be wondering, yes it is the fastest folding roof on the market. According to Aston Martin, it’s capable of lowering itself in 6.7 seconds and raising itself in 6.8 seconds whilst driving at up to 31mph, Not bad at all.

Also, because of how compact the new Z-fold setup is, there’s still 200-litres of boot space with the roof down. Thanks to the convertible roof and the increased chassis strengthening, the Vantage has increased in weight by 60kg, taking it to a total weight of 1,628kg. They’ve also tuned the suspension but are adamant it’s no softer than the coupe.

Other than that, it’s business as usual for the new Vantage Roadster. It’s powered by the same 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 producing 503bhp and 505lb ft of torque. The AMG-sourced engine is still paired with an 8-speed ZF automatic gearbox with no manual option for theRoadster. 0-62mph will take the same 3.7 seconds as the coupe and, with the roof up, it’ll top out at 190mph.

If you want one, it’ll cost you £126,950. Is that a fair price to pay for one of the prettiest cars on the road? Let me know what you think of the new Aston Martin Vantage Roadster in the comments section below or via our Facebook and Twitter pages.
