Alfa is back with a bang!
Yesterday saw the world unveiling of the new Alfa Romeo Giulia, and isn’t she a beauty! It’s similar in size to the BMW 3 series, and is aimed squarely at that market. However, Alfa isn’t stopping there, as the model you see here is the Quadrifoglio (cloverleaf) version which is based on the same underpinnings as the Maserati Ghibli. That means rear wheel drive, a Ferrari derived, six-cylinder, 510hp engine and 0-60 in under 4 seconds! I think that means it’s not just the 3 series that in it’s sights, but also the M3!
Alfa is claiming a 50/50 weight distribution and, along with the expected ABS, traction control and other modern safety requirements, have added an “Active Aero Splitter” to dynamically alter downforce on the fly.
With the use of ultralight materials, like carbon fibre, aluminium, aluminium composite and plastic they have managed to get the weight-to-power ratio down to less than than 3kg/hp.
It’s not just all numbers and exotic materials, however, take a look at the video below and just listen to the soundtrack. Where German cars are sometimes described as teutonic, I think the word here is tumescent!
