2020 BMW M550i coming to the UK
The 2020 BMW M550i will be available to buy in the UK for the first time in July having previously only been offered in Germany, Russia and North America.
It’s been introduced to the UK market as part of the G30/31’s mid-life facelift and, as exciting as this is, I’m going to have to disappoint you straight away – it’s only available as a saloon. Gutted. If you want a quick 5 Series estate, your best option is the six-cylinder 540i Touring.
Some of you will probably want to wait for the updated M5, which is due to be unveiled later this year. For many of you, though, the new M550i may be an irresistible prospect. It will be substantially cheaper with prices starting at just shy of £68k and will still put out some seriously impressive numbers.
Separating the M550i from the rest of the crop is a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 putting out a more-than-ample 523bhp and 553lb ft of torque. Paired with BMW’s xDrive system and an eight-speed automatic gearbox, rest assured that this thing will be quick.
0-62mph takes as little as 3.8 seconds and you’ll soon reach a limited top speed of 155mph. You’d expect it to make a fair amount of noise whilst it makes that sprint, too.
Other tweaks to the M550i include blacked-out grilles and trims, red brake calipers, 20-inch lightweight alloy wheels, an M Sport differential and adaptive M suspension. Inside, you get the Harmon/Kardon surround sound system as standard.
Changes across the board include a wider, deeper grille, updated headlights and a larger interior display unit with improved connectivity. Read more about the new range of 5 Series here.
I have to admit I’m not particularly fond of the green the M550i has been presented in. It’s still an excellent looking car, however, and would look even better with a nicer paint job.
