2016 Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport revealed

When the Porsche Cayman GT4 was released earlier this year, I was hugely impressed by it. I’d never been much of a Porsche fan, but the GT4 was the car that changed that, being the most powerful and best looking Cayman to date. Now, though, Porsche have revealed their track-only version of the Cayman GT4, the Clubsport, and it is beautiful.

The Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport is eligible for various race series around the world.

Unveiled to the world at the 2015 LA Auto Show, the Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport is powered by the same 3.8l flat-six as its road legal twin and the power output has stayed at 380bhp. There isn’t a manual gearbox for the Clubsport, only a paddleshift PDK.

The majority of the interior has been stripped and replaced with a racing bucket seat and a welded roll cage bringing the weight down to 1,300kg. That’s about 40kg less than the road-legal GT4 which should make it a fair bit faster.

The Cayman GT4 Clubsport’s interior has been designed to adhere to FIA safety regulations.

Several steps have been taken to improve the handling. The Clubsport uses the same suspension as the 911 GT3 Cup and carries 380mm steel brake discs all round. There are 12 stages of adjustment for the ABS and the car’s stability control system has been reprogrammed to accommodate for slick tyres.

Moving away from the performance, the Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport is an astonishingly good looking car and you can have one for £77,000, around £12,500 more than the road version.
