The Volkswagen Golf GTD, GTI and R are excellent cars, there is no denying that. One thing a lot of people believe they fall short on, however, is their appearance. “It’s a bit boring to look at”, they say, or “it looks too much like the standard car”. Not a view I agree with personally but Oettinger have come to the rescue anyway.
Volkswagen have teamed up with the German tuning company to offer a range of official body kits for the Golf range. These body kits start at £3,995 for the GTD and GTI or £5,225 for the R. Quite expensive, I know.
Bumpers have been sharpened up, front and rear, with a deeper spoiler and integrated splitter at the front and a much bigger diffuser at the back. There’s also a more prominent rear spoiler sat on top of the tailgate and new side skirts are included in the kit, too. The body kit has been designed and tested in the wind tunnel so at high speeds, you might notice a bit of a difference. I doubt it’ll affect your commute to work too much, though.
In addition to the new body kit, Oettinger will fit your Golf with a new exhaust silencer unit with quad outlets. The quad exhausts will give the GTD and GTI a more aggressive look though some will say four pipes on a GTD is a bit over the top. The R already has quad pipes so it won’t be so dramatically affected by the new look.
Not only will the new exhaust system look good, it’ll sound it, too. Volkswagen say the new exhaust gives the golf a much sportier sound which I’m sure will please a lot of people.
Although this new kit leaves the Volkswagen Golf looking slightly bottom-heavy, it should keep those that believe it looks too basic quiet for a little while. What do you think of the kit? Is it worth the money? Let us know in the comments section below or via our Facebook and Twitter pages.
