At last year’s Villa d’Este concours, it was hinted that a new BMW 8 Series could be the next expansion to the German manufacturer’s range. Now, it’s been confirmed that it will be making a return.
BMW boss Harald Krüger has announced that the new 8 Series will be a “true luxury sports coupe”. Unfortunately, it won’t be arriving until 2018. However, a concept is set to be officially unveiled at Villa d’Este on the luxurious shores of Lake Como later this month.
Not much is known about the new coupe as of yet. The sketch you saw at the top of the page is the only indication we have as to what it’ll look like. As silhouettes go, it looks pretty good if you ask me.
According to Krüger, “The BMW 8 Series Coupe will build on our tradition of luxurious sports coupes and add a genuine dream car to our line-up”.
We’re promised a combination of ‘uncompromising dynamics’ and ‘contemporary luxury’ that will see the BMW 8 Series go toe-to-toe with the popular Marcedes-Benz S-Class Coupe.
As many BMW fanatics will know, that original 8 Series was a fantastic car and we can only hope this reinvention of it lives up to the name.
We’ll be able to bring you more information when it’s unveiled officially in Italy on May 26th. What are your thoughts on what we know already, though? Are you excited for the 8 Series’ comeback? Let us know in the comments section below or via our Facebook and Twitter pages.
