You might feel a little jealous reading this, as MotoGP star Marquez wins a new BMW M3 for the 6th time in a row. But then again, as a five-time world champion at the age of 25, Marc Marquez is a little bit special. And although we normally keep motorcycle coverage on Rescogs, the fact he’s won the fastest-ever production M3 means we have a reason to feature it here as well.
BMW has been the official partner of top-level motorcycling for many years. The BMW M has been the “Official Car of MotoGP” for 20 years in 2018, and the firm supplies various vehicles to Dorna Sports, the championship organisers. That includes awarding a brand new BMW M series as the reward for the rider who shows the best performance in qualifying across the whole season as the BMW M Award.
And for the sixth year in a row, it’s Marc Marquez who drives away in a new car. He became the first rider to win the award in his rookie season in 2013. And when he won for a fourth consecutive time in 2016, he became the most successful recipient. So now he’s extended his record-breaking streak, along with winning the 2018 MotoGP world championship.
“I can hardly believe that I have won the BMW M Award for the sixth time running,” said Márquez at the award ceremony at Valencia. “One year ago, I announced here that my objective for 2018 was to claim this sixth victory – and I have actually managed it. That makes me very proud. Now I can hardly wait to get behind the wheel of this fantastic BMW M3 CS. I want to thank BMW M GmbH for providing the BMW M Award as an accolade for the fastest qualifier. This shows special appreciation for us as MotoGP riders. The prospect of winning this prize provides even more motivation for us when qualifying starts on Saturdays.”
The BMW M3 CS awarded as a prize is the most powerful production car in the M3 series so far. It takes just 3.9 seconds to go from 0 to 100kmh, thanks to an M TwinPower turbo inline-six-cylinder delivering 460hp and 600 Nm torque. It also has a 7-speed M dual clutch transmission with Drivelogic to handle that power, and adaptive M suspension.
The M3 CS for Marquez also features Frozen Dark Blue paint, 19-inch light alloy double-spoke wheels, full leather fine-grain Merino bi-colour upholstery, and an Alcantara M steering wheel among other features.
“There are hardly enough superlatives to describe Marc Márquez’ successes in the BMW M Award,” said Markus Flasch, President of BMW M GmbH. “He has prevailed regularly against some very strong competition since 2013 and proved just how talented he is as fastest qualifier in the MotoGP. The fact that he has now won the BMW M Award for the sixth time running is more than just impressive. Marc has made history again with this success in our anniversary season as a MotoGP partner. Congratulations on this exceptional performance. We are delighted to hand over this exclusive BMW M3 CS today. This prize is a token of our appreciation for his outstanding performance. I am sure that it will provide him with extreme driving pleasure – just like the winner’s cars of the last five years.”
