It’s rare to be able to buy an ex-Formula One race car, and even rarer to be able to buy one which is just a few years old. But that’s the opportunity now available with four recent F1 racers being offered by John Pye Auctions. The cars are all from the Virgin and Marussia teams, from 2010-2013.
2010 Virgin VR01:
The 2010 Virgin V101 was driven by Timo Glock and Lucas di Grassi.
2011 Marussia Virgin MVR02
The 2011 Marussia Virgin MVR02 driven by Timo Glock and Jerome d’Ambrosio.
2012 Marussia MR01:
The Marussia MR01 driven by Timo Glock and Charles Pic.
2013 Marussia MR02:
The Marussia MR02 driven by Jules Bianchi and Max Chilton. It’s one of the first times a Formula 1 car is being offered to the public which includes the Drag Reduction System (DRS).
2013 was also the year that Max Chilton became the first ever rookie driver to finish every single race in a season.
“The cars will be of interest to private collectors as museum pieces, as well as showcase items and even track day cars with some post sales engine and tuning to high net worth individuals looking for the ultimate automotive thrill,” said Giorgio Vitale from John Pye Auctions.
“They have to be seen in person to be fully appreciated for their styling and engineering beauty. This is why we are giving the public and prospective purchasers the opportunity to view the cars at our John Pye Auctions site in Marchington, Uttoxeter, Staffs, over the next few weeks. ”
Obviously buying one of the Formula One quartet won’t be cheap, and the cars are priced upon application. Initial viewing dates are Monday Feb 1st and Tuesday Feb 2nd from 11am-1pm, and private viewings can be arranged via the John Pye Auctions website.
