If you’ve never gone along to watch rallying, then you should check out the 2016 British Rally Championship. Even if you’ve enjoyed circuit racing for years, the experience of standing in quiet countryside is strange.
Then you hear some whistles, a rising exhaust note, and some maniac hurtles past a few feet from your toes in a high powered rally car which disappears almost as quickly as it arrived.
I spent years watching Rallycross at venues like Lydden Hill and watching rallying on TV, but it was only a few years ago that I finally got to see what it was like in the flesh, and I loved it. This year will have a return to Four Wheel Drive, and the R5 Class featuring the M-Sport’s Ford Fiesta R5, Peugeot’s 208 T16 and Citroen’s DS3 R5 as the highest level of competition.
